As the air cools shortly after sundown, mist begins to rise magically from the water in the warmer, spring fed area of Rattlesnake lake.

This is a 3 shot HDR picture, processed in Photomatix then adjusted in Lightroom. Each shot was over a second of exposure, so you can figure it was actually quite dark. HDR allows the colors to come through from the sky and still get some color and luminance on this backside of the large stump. This was a lovely scene that is well represented by this picture.

As I peer over the ledge I see the sunlight is creeping down across the cedar forest toward the lake as the sun climbs higher in the sky.

Most of Rattlesnake Lake is covered with ice this cold morning. The first rays of sunlight are bathing the flanks of Rattlesnake Mountain below me.
